Beautifying Skin Creams

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

collagen-skin-pictureThere are so many skin care creams and lotions on the market.  It can be a daunting task to choose the best one for you.  You may be tempting to just pick the one with the prettiest packaging.  Many skin creams unfortunately contain chemical ingredients that can irritate and break skin out.  It is more important to look for creams with natural  ingredients that have proven results.

Chemicals are harsh and irritating on the skin.  Most synthetic ingredients do not work as well for skincare.  A lot skin creams, and other personal care products are labeled organic yet they still have synthetic ingredients.  You have to read your labels carefully.   You do not want to use alcohols, petroleum or other chemical additives on your face.  These substances will clog pores and dry the skin.  If you start reading labels closely you may be shocked at how many creams contain theses and other chemical ingredients.

It is important to moisturize you’re the skin properly.  Each day your face is exposed to sun and other elements that take away moisture.  This moisture needs to be replaced daily.  This is true for men as well as women.  Moisturizing the face properly will help reduce wrinkles and make skin look plump and more youthful.

There are five main types of skin complexions: dry, oily, normal, combination and sensitive.  You probably know that dry skin needs to be moisturized, but the other four types need extra moisture as well.  Even oily skin needs moisturizer to balance the sebum production.  So look for a moisturizer that is formulated with your skin type in mind.  It should be made with natural ingredients.  A good skin care company will be able to provide evidence and research on its product ingredients.  Do your homework, and you will be able to find a skin cream to moisturize, replenish, and restore the face.

Remember to cater to your skin type! Different creams can use different herbal extracts to make sure that the very basic problem is solved such as dry skin, lack of moisutre, oily skin, weak collagen production resulting in aging, skin spots and more.

Unscented & Fragrance Free Products

Monday, March 1st, 2010

There is a reason you can now find all types of person care product in unscented and fragrance free versions.  There are all types of products available without a smell like shampoo, deodorant, and laundry detergent.  There is a big market for these products because many people are bothered by so many fragrances and chemicals and have found they really are not necessary.

Is fragrance free right for you?  Many people opt for fragrance free products because they suffer from allergies or their skin is sensitive.  Fragrances can be irritating especially when you a conditions such as acne or other skin disorders.

There are many people who are fragrance sensitive and chemical sensitive.  Fragrance sensitivity can cause things like headaches and migraines, tight chest, wheezing, and rhinitis.  Some people also report problems like upper respiratory distress, dry burning eyes, sinus problems, rashes, dizziness and nausea.  Some people even claim to have more serious problems including memory loss, depression, and anxiety.  There is even a push by some people to limit fragrances in public areas.  This sounds like extreme measures, but some chemical and fragrance sensitive advocates say that is unfair for these people to be suffer everywhere they go.  Even some workplaces have begun to adopt a no fragrance policy.

When choosing fragrance free products you have to be cautious.  Not all products labeled unscented or fragrance free are completely free of fragrance chemicals.  Some manufacturers actually use chemicals to mask the smell of other chemical products.  There may not be a scent but the chemicals that can be so irritating are still there.  The FDA requires manufacturers to list “fragrance” in the ingredients when any fragrance, even a masking one, is used.  Read labels closely and you should be able to tell the truly fragrance free products from the fakers.

Treating Itchy Scalp

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Itchy scalp is experienced by most people at various times in their lives.  It can be created by many different scalp problems.  A few of the scalp conditions that tend to cause itching are dandruff, contact dermatitis, and psoriasis.

You have most likely heard of dandruff.  It is probably the most common scalp condition of all.  Typically dandruff is a mild and consists of small white flakes and moderate itching.  Sometimes however, dandruff is severe.  Flakes can get stuck together in clumps to form larger white mounds on the scalp.  Even in its mildest form, dandruff tends to be itchy and many people find it to be embarrassing.

Contact dermatitis stems from an environmental irritation or some type allergic reaction.  One of the main things that make contact dermatitis appear is chemical ingredients in various products for the hair.  Chemicals can be found in many hair products including shampoos and conditioners.  It is unfortunate that so many of the hair products that are available at your locally drug store contain multiple chemicals.  These chemicals will dry out head and hair and can cause itching.  Contact dermatitis can also be caused by other things in the environment or in and some foods.

Another skin condition, psoriasis, can also cause itching on the scalp. When present on the scalp, psoriasis tends to also be on other parts of the body.  Knees, creases in skin, and elbows are some of the other areas where you may experience psoriasis breakouts.  It also attacks the joints of many people.  When psoriasis appears on the scalp, it is characterized by dry scaly patches that can look powdery and white.  Sometimes the entire scalp can be covered with these bothersome patches.

In order to maintain a healthy scalp, it is important to create a balance of oil and a balanced ph level.  The balanced scalp does not have too much or too little oil.  Many of the hair products, even some that are designed to help with scalp problems, actually contain chemicals that may irritate the scalp.   By using the right natural ingredients that balance and restore the scalp uncomfortable itching can be stopped.  Zinc is an all around great natural scalp ingredient.  It is used to regulate the production of sebum. Emu oil and jojoba oil mimic the sebum naturally produced on the scalp and may help the scalp produce more sebum on its own.  Thyme and rosemary are used to detoxify and purify the scalp.  A scalp shampoo with the right natural ingredients can create a good balance and restore the scalp.  It can even relieve many scalp symptoms such as an itchy scalp.
