data portability
i'm doing this logo for a contest because i believe in the cause and there's a free iphone to boot.. (i'm always on ginny's and i just installed a decent plugin for mobile editing of this site).. seems that Red Hat recently sent a Cease and Desist claiming that the DataPortability logo was too similar to their Fedora Logo.
... while i was working on it kris sends me this.

it's what happens when your working with illustrator too long... and actually the binary code got me to thinking of some great ideas for the logo and i got a cool link to this encoder from paul schou

i was researching design firms yesterday thinking about the logo and noticed that now..they're selling rental space on 2008 web trend map from information architect

.. when i found out that logo designers identity folks... like Tony Speath of identityworks spend a great deal of time prophesizing over their designs.. as i see they must of been consulting the enormalcom spoof from the guys at 37 signals since he added a swoosh to the all new capital one logo.

..the older fuji and holiday inn seem so classic to me.. and in a time when people are fed up with modernism and automation.. classic is good...i think...anyway i'll do the same and follow up and post the final result here... but i'm starting with binary data as my primary inspiration.
dpdp
...and i'll end up with fifty of these in a couple hours...i think i'm going to stick with the barcode though.. it speaks volumes on what the system does as far as identity and data go... One last unfortunate thing.. many of the folks are using the 'dp' as i did early on.. but while it doesn't have any clear identity there is one nasty little porn reference... here's the flickr pool.

...my niece ruby in binary form. (and although he will not say it's entirely the cause of her name.. the programming language certainly had something to do with it)
